The museum now displays several collections of ancient Hue antiques, the majority of which originate in the royal family. Inside the UNESCO-recognised Imperial Citadel, the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum stores over 9,000 artifacts of the Nguyen Dynasty, the country’s last ruling family. As many as 33 antique artifacts in the museum have been recognised as national treasures. The artifacts kept at the Hue Museum of Royal Antiquities reflect the royal life, political rituals, and ideology of the Nguyen kings and mandarins, the last feudal dynasty in Vietnam which ruled from 1802 to 1945. King Khai Dinh’s bed, tables, and other valuable artefacts are showcased at the site. The royal costume of the kings and queens under the Nguyen Dynasty are put on display in the museum. A pair of ivory tusks used as decoration in the palace of the Nguyen Dynasty is about 1.2 metres long. Other artifacts which remain well preserved in...

This talented young artist possesses a special destiny. After contracting severe pneumonia and forced to take high doses of antibiotics, Long was left permanently deaf. In addition, he was also diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder that requires special care from both parents and caretakers. The boy also suffered physical problems, including congenital muscle paralysis in both legs which made walking extremely difficult. Whilst enduring these difficulties might make most people surrender to their fate, the dedication and boundless love of his mother and an innate talent for painting helped the boy overcome hardship and become a promising young artist. Long has been showing off his talent for painting since he was small. Even as a youngster, he could draw anything accurately through memory, with painting classes later helping him to sharpen and cultivate his skills. Typically, he prefers drawing sketches and can sit down all day sketching buildings, trees, or a...

Aaranyak-BAT installs solar lights in hotspots of human-elephant conflict

Hình ảnh
With support from the British Asian Trust, Aaranyak is taking a community-centric approach to address human-elephant conflict in six high incidence districts of Assam and Meghalaya, where over 90 people have lost their lives in the last six months. “Aaranyak is working with local communities to create change which helps protect both people and elephants,” says Aaranyak’s senior scientist Dr Bibhuti Prasad Lahkar. Most of the villages affected by elephants are located in remote parts of the state with poor roads, communication, inadequate electricity connection and erratic power supply. Villagers, especially women and children, are often scared of going out of their houses after dusk in fear of encountering wild elephants that may have strayed into their villages. Lack of lighting facilities make those nights eerie. Prominent research-based biodiversity conservation organisation of the region, Aaranyak (www.aaranyak.org), in collaboration with Assam Forest Department, h...

Vietnamese striker Nguyen Tien Linh achieves historic top scorer title

With six goals, Linh shared the title of Top Scorer with Thailand’s Teerasil Dangda at the 2022 AFF Championship. Many of his six goals came at crucial times. In the group stage, the Vietnamese striker scored three goals in the matches against Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar. In the knockout round, Linh continued to shine with three goals, including two in the semifinal second leg against Indonesia. In the final first leg against Thailand, he opened the scoring for the Golden Stars, marking his sixth goal in the tournament. In the final second leg on Monday evening, Linh had several opportunities to improve his record but failed to convert any. If he had succeeded, the Vietnamese player would have definitely become the only top scorer of the championship, as Dangda was not playing in the match. Nevertheless, Linh’s achievement is still praiseworthy, as this is the most goals he has scored after participating in three AFF championships. Linh netted only one goal at the 201...
