Exploring Vietnamese Culture Through Water Puppetry: The German President’s Wife’s Journey

During their state visit to Vietnam, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, visited the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. Elke Büdenbender went behind the scenes and talked to the artists to gain a deeper understanding of the art of water puppetry and their work.
As part of their visit to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, the first ladies of Vietnam and Germany received special gifts from the theatre. Water puppetry is a traditional art form in Vietnam that dates back to the 11th century. The shows depict scenes from rural life, including landscapes, bamboo trees, and traditional activities like fishing and rice cultivation.
The wives of the Vietnamese and German Presidents posed for a photo with the artists at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. Vietnam and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1975 and elevated their ties to a strategic partnership in 2011. The year 2024 is significant as it leads up to the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2025.

Various activities to mark 80 year of Outline of Vietnamese Culture

The national workshop, due to take place on February 27, will bring together managers, scientists, and practitioners of culture and art who will examine the historical significance, great value, and influence of the Outline of Vietnamese Culture over the past 80 years. Delegates will propose solutions to effectively promote the value of the document for the purpose of cultural and human development in order to meet the country’s requirements for sustainable development. Both Party and State leaders, along with representatives of relevant ministries, agencies, and all 63 localities, will attend the workshop to be held both physically and virtually. Vietnamese Coastline Hosts Sighting of Whale Shark

Nhat Phong, a local tour guide, reported that he and a group of tourists had a remarkable encounter with a shark during a boat trip to the coral reefs along Bai Dua Beach. The shark sighting occurred on Thursday at 11:45 am. Phong revealed that the tourists initially spotted the shark’s large fin on the water surface, which got them all excited. They requested the captain to turn the boat around for a closer look. As they approached, they noticed the shark swimming slower and appearing friendly.
